2023 EUROPEAN PARCEL MARKET - PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE

THE 2023 EUROPEAN CEP MARKET – A PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE

Published on 22/05/2024

Effigy Consulting has just completed a preliminary assessment of the 2023 European Parcel Market.

The analysis is based on the major carriers’ results across Europe combined with drill-downs on several large countries.

The year 2023 faced a slow start, recovering from a challenging post-COVID situation. Despite a tense economic and political situation, volume results in the second half of 2023 strengthened versus H1/23 thanks to the recovery of the B2C segment.

The 2023 European market has experienced a +4.9% growth versus 2022 with an estimated volume of 18.69 billion parcels.

The European CEP Market includes 32 countries, among which Ukraine, Turkey and Russia.

    European Peliminary volumes 2023

The strongest increase was seen with CTT Group in Iberia, with +39.2% in volume in 2023. According to the Group, growth was driven essentially by B2C e-commerce customers. Growth came from all types of clients, in particular from large global marketplaces, national and international e-sellers, as well as from smaller customers.

InPost Group, one the main out-of-home delivery specialists in Europe, has also reported an impressive 2023 group-wide growth, with strong parcel volumes (+19.7%). InPost has continued to invest in the expansion of its locker network, resulting in further market share gains in core countries.

Note that some carriers’ estimates, such as Royal Mail Group and FedEx, are not based on full year results as their fiscal years end later.

The analysis of the European countries is currently in progress and will be released in July 2023 (certain countries are already available upon request). The other regions will follow thereafter (North America and Asia-Pacific).
